State Capitals is Now Free
March 23rd, 2009
After several weeks on the Android Market, my State Capitals application is now free. I made ten sales. Of those ten, two were returned and one person’s credit card didn’t work.

At $2.00 for each of the seven completed sales, my app grossed $14. Subtract 30% for T-Mobile, and I get $9.80. Since I paid $25 to join the market, I am $15.20 in the red.
This is mildly disappointing, but I didn’t really expect to get rich selling state capital flash cards. I suppose I could try reducing the price to $0.99, but this feels like a dead end. I’d rather focus on game programming…and thus begins my next wild-goose chase.
Um, instead of complaining, why not just keep charging for it?
I am not complaining. There is a difference between complaining and expressing my feelings of disappointment on my personal blog.
I spent a lot of time on this app, and now I am giving it away for free. Hopefully many people will benefit from that. I am turning a personal setback into a positive contribution to the community.
Much appreciated. I didn’t buy it because I am using a dev phone and don’t have the market, and I’m lame like that – also honestly waiting for things there to settle down a bit. Even so, I think it’s a great app concept and the kids will definitely use it. Gracias.
Don’t feel bad man, with only one phone out and no iphone-appstore-like-advertising its too early to expect a $40K month. I think it will get bigger once android is on multiple phones. I have appreciated you writing about your whole becoming-an-android-developer experience. Thanks for that perspective.
