Unrelated Scripting Language Benchmark
January 3rd, 2009
For background on this comic, read Chris Oliver’s “Performance matters – 25x for JavaFX script over Groovy and JRuby blog” entry.

Given that FX competes with Flash and Silverlight, comparing it with JRuby and Groovy seems pointless. Danno Ferrin suggested a comic to me, and I ran with it. (Don’t get pissed at Danno if you are offended by bad words and depictions of programming language oral sex…his idea was cleaner than mine!)
For the record, here was my suggestion which went down a different direction (however, FX having no robe was a really nice and subtle touch)
Frame 1 – ruby (the lady) & groovy (afro & gold chain) scuffling “I’m faster” “no, I’m faster”, … “ok, we’re both pretty fast” “Ohh… look, ORM!” (a butterfly)
Frame 2 – JavaFX “Kiss my ring biotches I’m faster than both of you!” (in robes with a crown and kings staff, etc)
Frame 3 – Ruby and Groovy dog pile JavaFX “Noob” “Phesant”, etc… Scala pokes it’s head around the corner “Fight? Why didn’t anyone tell me! Looks like fun!”
re: Groovy. I’m not sure if it is part of the satire, but I wouldn’t call any of these scripting languages, though jRuby and Groovy allow that. jRuby and Groovy are general purpose, dynamically-typed languages.
re: the emperor has no clothes. I’m glad you pointed that out, DF. that is the best part!
Wow! thats crazy , odd, insane! .. and oddly I’m being drawn to it like a moth to a flame …cant…stop .. must …see
