Death File

I think I need a death file. Some sort of document that lists all of my online accounts, insurance policies, bank accounts, important documents, etc.

If I were to die suddenly, I don’t know how the hell my wife would clean up the mess I’ve left online.

Justin Says:

I’ve thought about the same thing many times. I think the closest thing I have is a Google Docs document with all that information. She, at least, knows the password to that account, and all the others are stored safely there.

Lance Finney Says:

I have something similar as what Justin has. In addition, I have a flash drive with a copy of my GnuCash file and pdfs of recent bank and credit card statements that I keep in a secure location.

And I update both the Google Docs document and the flash drive every month.

Mario Aquino Says:

My wife handles the bills and assorted details of our lives. If she goes first, me and the kids are fucked.

Dave Says:

Mario: So do something about it. Now. If it were just you, I’d say it’s your own damn fault and you get what’s coming to you. But as politicians love to say, think of the children.

Anyone thought of a will? If you don’t want to put all that info in a will, you could just write on the will where that list is.
