The Incredible Hulk: Hollow

The Incredible Hulk is hollow. Discuss.

Carl Says:

If you mean metaphorically, then Yes, I agree. The Hulk, like Superman, Thor, and other indestructible heroes is essentially god-like and unchanging, and in that way is reminiscent of the protagonists of the very oldest human myths and stories. For example, you could arrange the stories that the bronze-age Greeks told of their gods in almost any order — they exist in a timeless “now”, not the kind of narrative sequence we now take for granted, and are unchanged by their experiences. By contrast, the comic book heroes that have had the most enduring impact over the past couple of decades, such as Watchmen, are more like Biblical stories or like Campbell’s famous “heroic journey”: they depict a hero transformed by his or her experience, and have a definite linearity to them. This emergence of the concept of historical progression rather than timeless repetition is possibly the most profound moment in the emergence of the modern mind.

I got into this idea in much more detail in my own blog at http://theczardictates.blogspot.com/2008/05/on-mythic-heroes-and-modern-heroes-gods.html

Adam Ness Says:

It’s the only way to explain how it is that he appears to become much more massive during the transformation from Bruce Banner. Perhaps an ingenious “density increase” in his bones and muscles could also work. Like Bamboo, incredibly strong, light, and hollow.

David Says:

Come on guys! it’s just a super-hero movie after all! I’d never spect to be “enlightened” by one of these movies, I just want to have fun for a while remembering my childhood and hoping the bad guy(s) get their as*** kicked!!

Is it a good topic to be trascendental about?

I hope we all have better things to attend.

Greetings from Colombia, Good website by the way!
