If My Phone Sucks…

…is Twitter worth my time? What’s the point if I have to login and check a web site for updates? The last time I tried Twitter, I tried following via RSS, which sucked because it lagged about 8-12 hours, which seemed to defeat the whole point.

Bob Lee Says:

Are you going to be at JavaOne!? Can your phone not even do SMS?

I use twhirl as a desktop client: http://www.twhirl.org/ it’s my favourite.

Also, the captch is super hard to read.. I had to reload 3 times before I got one I could actually make out =(

Bob Lee Says:

Also, I use the IM interface most of the time.

I’m rather fond of TwitterFox, a Firefox add-on that sits comfortably in the lower left corner of your window.

Sam.Halliday Says:

I’ve always thought that the beauty of mobile twitter is that it works using the most basic of interfaces… SMS.

Eric Burke Says:

Yes, my phone supports SMS. However…this means I’d have to upgrade to a more expensive plan. And my phone really does suck. Messages are buried behind several menus, and it requires many button presses to navigate through those menus to either read or delete messages. I find it hard to justify spending extra money on a messaging or data plan unless I have a phone worthy of texting. I’ve sent maybe 5 SMS messages in my entire life, each time was annoying and tedious.

SDC Says:

the whole problem is you seem to be wanting to take twitter seriously

it’s a fun little trifle and lives up to my expectations since those are my expectations.

Stevi Deter Says:

I’ll put in vote for twhirl as a desktop app and twitterfox as a firefox plugin.

I don’t use twitter from my phone at all. I do send direct messages to it, and let people know they can use it for last minute change of plans sorts of things. But I don’t think i’ve ever tweeted from my phone.

Alex Miller Says:

Coincidentally, I just tweeted a message along these lines. :) After a week with Twitter, I find I’m reading blogs less (not sure if overall net time wastage is less or more than before) yet seeing news faster and more interesting links.

At the moment, I’m enjoying it. I’m not sure how well it will scale for me personally over time as # of follows increases.
