I Can’t Win
May 2nd, 2008
Holy balls. I had a Twitter account in the past, but I deleted it. (due to being boring and having nothing to write about) Now I decide I’d like to try Twitter again, so I just tried creating a new account.
First, they tell me my Email is already taken. Grr…
So then I click the “forgot” link, enter my Email…and they say:
Oh Snap! We couldn’t find you!
So let me get this straight:
- According to their database, my Email address is already taken.
- According to their database, they can’t find my Email address.
Impressive. I blame Rails. (not really, just seems like easy trolling these days…)
UPDATE: I submitted a bug report, and when I hut “Submit”, they immediately redirected me to a login page. So I have no idea if my bug report even made it.
You need to bug report the bug report then.
Yeah I tried submitting the bug report again, and was again bounced back to a login page. They definitely aren’t receiving my report, so I think Twitter’s a lost cause for my forever-locked-out email.
That’s worth of The Daily WTF (http://thedailywtf.com/)!
Most likely you have deleted the account but the information was not purged. Hence the error you are getting. Same happens on other sites as well (Flickr, for example, does not recycle names, so you would get pretty much the same thing there)
Why? A lot of times it has to do with key constraints in the database, though who knows what their particular set-up’s peculiarity is.
I’m up and running, they fixed it for me:
